Two digital workplace trends

The intersection of talent and technology is what we call workforce digital dexterity. Ensuring that employees are able to exploit changes in the technology landscape is a team effort requiring coordination between team managers, HR, facilities management, and IT and business unit executives.

Distributed work is a highly flexible model of work as it relates to when, where, how and who is doing the work. It infers fluid team structures as teams come together and disband as work needs to get done. Cohesive small team “units,” which persist in time, can also be encountered.

Digital channels and a collection of everchanging cloud-sourced, personal and team productivity applications — what we call “the new work hub” enables distributed work.

The shift to hybrid places an even greater importance on DEX. But the path to improved DEX is also a challenging one: think less about your end users, and more like your end users. Organizations are supporting an increasing portfolio of digital workplace technologies that can be pivotal to delivering a differentiated employee experience. But most employees report they put forth unnecessary effort to use data or technology for work. Not even a quarter of employees (22%) feel IT-provided technologies make it easy to do their work. Delivering a positive digital employee experience (DEX) increases employee engagement, improves satisfaction and work effectiveness with applications, and accelerates employees’ adoption of new ways of working.

Gartner predicts that by 2024, 60% of large global organizations will try to address employee experience needs by deploying at least five digital workplace technologies.
