We are bringing you news and highlights from the Gartner ReimagineHR Conference 2023, taking place this week in Sydney, Australia. Below is a collection of the key announcements and insights coming out of the conference.

On Day 2 of the conference, we are highlighting sessions on strategically positioning HR for innovation, boosting digital HR to thrive in the new world of work, and closing the sustainability opportunity gap.

Key Announcements

Strategically Positioning HR for Innovation

Presented by Christopher Long, Vice President, Advisory, Gartner

HR organizations are under tremendous pressure to deliver new solutions to a growing set of unique challenges, like setting up hybrid work environments or taking a stand on social issues. In this session, Christopher Long, Vice President, Advisory at Gartner, discussed how progressive HR leaders can maximize innovation.

Key Takeaways

  • “To gain a competitive advantage and drive successful business outcomes, CHROs must remove barriers that prevent them from embedding innovation into their function.”

  • “HR leaders can define innovation’s value by determining what it will seek to solve, if it aligns with your business strategy and how it can add value to the organization.”

  • “Removing silos and engaging cross-functional talent will allow HR to embed innovation networks into their function."

  • “HR leaders that structure innovation processes by establishing decision criteria, will de-risk innovation and enable targeted experimentation.”

  • “By defining value, embedding networks and structuring processes, organizations create a strategic and sustainable approach to position HR for innovation.”

Boost Digital HR to Thrive in the New World of Work

Presented by Harsh Kundulli, Senior Director Analyst, Gartner

HR is increasingly faced with complex business requests, often in areas beyond their traditional control or expertise. While digital HR may be essential, it is not enough to meet these new demands. In this session, Harsh Kundulli, Senior Director Analyst at Gartner, explained how organizations can increase the effectiveness of digital HR in today’s new world of work.

Key Takeaways

  • “Traditional digital HR – social, mobile, analytics, and cloud – is essential but not enough to meet new work-oriented and interdependent business demands.”
  • “To boost digital HR, shift attention from HR processes to the day-to-day work of employees by focusing on the differentiated work journeys and needs of employees.”

  • “Collaborate across functions by convening fusion teams to solve work problems and deliver coordinated initiatives to design, deliver, enhance and manage digital capabilities.”

  • “Fusion teams can organize by outcomes and not functions; blend technology and business expertise; and deliver continuously rather than at a point in time.”

  • “Scale up impact on day-to-day work by leveraging newer digital technologies within and outside of HR that are hyperpersonalized to the employee.”

Closing the Sustainability Opportunity Gap: The Role of CHROs and Managers

Presented by Aaron McEwan, VP, Advisory, Gartner

Sustainability is a rising priority for CEOs, as well as employees. However, employee interest currently outpaces opportunities to engage around sustainability. In this session, Aaron McEwan, Vice President, Advisory at Gartner, discussed how CHROs can create a strong culture of sustainability and equip managers to drive employee engagement.

Key Takeaways

  • “To close the sustainability interest-opportunity gap, focus on maximizing opportunities by supporting a strong culture of sustainability and equipping managers to support it too.”
  • “Engage employees directly in co-defining what sustainability means for the organization and determine which sustainability efforts will be prioritized.”

  • “Ensure all employees have a clear understanding of sustainability goals and how they can contribute and participate.”

  • “Tailor development opportunities to employees’ specific sustainability interests and goals to ensure their engagement.”

  • “Find ways to create alignment with employees on what sustainability is and why it matters, then create connectedness so they feel that sense of care and belonging from their employer.”

That's a wrap for Gartner ReimagineHR Conference 2023 in Sydney. See you next year.
